We have a spectacular librarian who not only supports our K-12 curriculum by connecting library resources with each grade level’s units of study, she makes it her job to know each of our students by name and to remember what interests each one of them most! I’ve heard our librarian, with a contagious smile or tears in her eyes, tell amazing stories about how providing just the right book has changed a reluctant reader into one who exceeds grade level expectations in his or her core academic subjects! A student who may not see themselves as knowledgeable or smart can become an expert in their area of interest because they discovered something about themselves in a library book. You too, can change a students’ life with a donation to the library! Your one-time contribution or monthly gift of $25 or more to the Paul Cuffee Library, or to one of the named collections described below, can make an enormous difference in the education of just one child, or to 546 Providence students in grades K-9! Please make a donation to the Paul Cuffee School Library today. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS: Rosalind C. Wiggins To honor the racial and social justice legacy and passion of our special friend Rosalind (Posy), The Rosalind C. Wiggins Collection is our first named collection at Paul Cuffee School. Established in 2005, the spacious shelves in our library rooms include books and resources by and about African Americans for multi-generational readers. There is also an endowment in Posy’s name managed by the Rhode Island Foundation to support the annual growth of the Rosalind C. Wiggins Collection at Paul Cuffee School. If you prefer that your gift be added to this special fund for future purchases, please mention the "R.C. Wiggins Endowment" when you make your donation. To add a new book to the "Wiggins Collection" this year, please designate the Wiggins Fund in the memo area of your check to Paul Cuffee School. David L. Bourns For his visionary leadership, impressive accomplishments, and inclusive school culture; for his sense of humor, poetry recitations, and love of art; for his insatiable curiosity, his “we take care of ourselves” mantra and his positive impact on the lives of hundreds of students, families, faculty, friends and staff of the school, we have established a named collection for the founding head of Paul Cuffee School, upon the occasion of his retirement in June 2010. Please designate the "David. L. Bourns Collection", when making a gift to the library in his honor. Carol Montrond A kindred spirit and generous friend, Carol Montrond inspired dozens of her colleagues at The Providence Journal Company to read to and speak with students and teachers at Paul Cuffee School during Reading Week events each year. Carol worked as the executive assistant to the editor of The Providence Journal Company for 20 years. Her love for people, books, travel, dancing, music, good food and cooking combined with her easy sense of humor and innate ability to make life easier and joyous for others, is the spirit with which Carol can be remembered each time a student or teacher takes a book off the special collection shelves at Paul Cuffee School. Please designate "The Carol Montrond Collection", when making a charitable gift to the Paul Cuffee School in her memory. Donations go toward special program expenses such as swimming lessons for each child, field trips, special guests, extracurricular activities, teacher training, instructional materials and books, computer equipment, supplemental services and unexpected educational opportunities during each fiscal year. [top] Help Build a K-12 Campus for PCS Students: All students deserve to learn in bright, clean, well-designed school buildings. Because Paul Cuffee School operates as our own school district, we must raise 70% of the millions of dollars needed to purchase and improve our facilities. In order to maintain our cohesive school community as we implement our K-12 expansion plans, we must purchase land nearby our elementary school and raise more than $20 million to build a middle and high school campus. We need everyone’s donations, small and large, to secure appropriate facilities for our K-12 programs.
